Banya Accessories

Essentials for the experience include: a bath rob, a shapka (woolen hat), scrub brush and a venik. The latter is supplied, one per group. Never leave on an empty stomach. The traditonal, shashliki-based meal, is provided at a nominal fee. It will ensure your body and mind are content upon departure. The meal always begins with an optional shot of vodka.

Shashliki on an open-fire

Fresh fruits and vegetables are sourced from our garden or locally when in season. When the True Russian or The Ultimate are selected, shashliki is served with traditional foods like potatoes and tomatoes.

What’s a venik?

It is essential to banya experience. Younger branches from maple, oak and ironwood are sourced on-site. Then, they are hung to dry and cure for a few months. Take yours home for reuse. Oak reeds can be used up to four times and maple twice.

The Shapka

A shapka is essential for controlling body temperature. Avoid wetting your hair when starting, as this can cause overheating. In a pitch, a good thick woolen toque can be substituted. Authentic Russian shapkas are $15 (no HST). They can be purchased on- site.
